Ivermectin a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic agent, is used in human for the treatment of scabies and filariasis. Ivermectin binds selectively and with high affinity to glutamate- gated chloride ion channels in invertebrate muscle cell and nerve cells of parasite. This binding causes an increase in permeability of the cell membrane to chloride ions and results in hyperpolarization of cell, leading to paralysis and death of the parasite.
