Description

Butamirate citrate (Miracit), is a cough suppressant which is neither chemically nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids. Its acts centrally by diminishing the tussigenic reflex and peripherally via a bronchospasmolytic activity enhanced by an anti-inflammatory action. Butamirate citrate also increases the spirometry indexes & blood oxygenation. Butamirate citrate (Miracit) does not induce habit-forming effects or dependence.

Presentation

    Each 5 ml syrup contains Butamirate Citrate INN 7.5 mg.

Indications

    Miracit is indicated in acute cough of any etiology, pre and post-operative cough sedation for surgical procedure and bronchoscopy.

Dosage & Administration

    Children 3 - 6 years: 5 ml 3 times daily.
    Children 6 - 12 years: 10 ml 3 times daily.
    Adolescents over 12 years: 15 ml 3 times daily.
    Adults: 15 ml 4 times daily.

Contrainidications

    Hypersensitivity to the active substance.

Side effects

    Butamirate is well tolerated. In rare cases, skin rash, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness has been reported. They disappear after reduction of the dosage or discontinuation of the drug.

Drug interaction

    Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided.

Use in special groups

    Pregnancy & lactation: Butamirate should not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy. During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, butamirate should be administered only if necessary, to use medicines. Butamirate syrup should be carefully considered in case of breastfeeding.
