Scabinil (Spinosad 0.9%) is a targeted topical therapy designed to treat scabies and head lice infestations in adults and children. It causes neuronal hyperexcitation in mites and lice, leading to paralysis and death. Scabinil provides a convenient, single-application option with minimal systemic absorption and a favorable safety profile.
Scabinil is a topical suspension containing Spinosad 0.9% w/w, derived from the fermentation of the soil bacterium Saccharopolyspora spinosa. It functions by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect nervous system, triggering involuntary muscle contractions, tremors, paralysis, and ultimate death of mites, lice, and their eggs. Designed for topical administration, Scabinil demonstrates negligible systemic absorption through intact human skin, ensuring localized action with minimal side effects. It is indicated for treating scabies in patients 4 years and older, as well as head lice in patients 6 months and older.
Scabinil Topical Suspension: Each gm of topical suspension contains Spinosad INN 9 mg.
