Description

Alcaftadine is an H1 histamine receptor antagonist and inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells. In addition it antagonizes H2 & H4 receptors and thus provides antihistaminic actions. It also decreases chemotaxis and inhibits the activation of eosinophil.

Presentation

    Caftadin Sterile Ophthalmic Solution: Each ml contains Alcaftadine INN 2.5 mg.
    Preservative: Sodium Perborate BP 0.01%.

Indications

    Caftadin Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of allergic conditions of the anterior segment of the eye.

Contrainidications

Warning & Precautions

    For ophthalmic use only. Patients should be advised not to wear contact lenses if their eye is red.

Side effects

    Most frequently reported side effects are mild eye irritation, burning or stinging upon instillation and redness.
     

Drug interaction

    Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.

Use in special groups

    Use in pregnancy: Pregnancy category B.

    Use in lactation: It is not known whether Alcaftadine is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when Alcaftadine is administered to a nursing mother.

    Use in children: Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 2 years have not been established.

    Use in elderly patients: No overall differences in safety and effectiveness have been observed between elderly and other adult patients.

    Caftadin Sterile Ophthalmic Solution: Each LDPE dropper bottle contains 5 ml sterile ophthalmic solution.
