Description

Olopatadine selectively blocks histamine H1 receptor and stabilizes mast cells. Thus, it prevents histamine binding to its receptors and inhibits mast cell degranulation & histamine release. It also decreases chemotaxis and inhibits the activation of eosinophil.

Presentation

    Olpadin Eye Drops: Each ml contains Olopatadine Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Olopatadine 1 mg. 

    Olpadin DS Eye Drops: Each ml contains Olopatadine Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Olopatadine 2 mg. 

    Olpadin 7 Eye Drops: Each ml contains Olopatadine Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Olopatadine 7 mg. 

    Preservative: Sodium Perborate BP 0.01%. 

    Vehicle: Olpadin and Olpadin DS Eye Drops: Polyvinyl Alcohol USP 1.4%, Olpadin 7 Eye Drops: Povidone K-17

Indications

    Olpadin, Olpadin DS & Olpadin 7 are indicated for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

Dosage & Administration

    Olpadin: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily.
    Olpadin DS: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.
    Olpadin 7 : Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.

Contrainidications

    Contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to Olopatadine Hydrochloride or any other component of the preparation.

Warning & Precautions

    • For ophthalmic use only
    • To avoid possible contamination of the drops, do not touch the dropper tip or to any surface
    • Do not wear a contact lens during the treatment
    • If more than one topical ophthalmic drug is being used, the drugs should be administered at least (5) minutes interval between applications

Side effects

    Blurred vision, temporary burning & stinging, dry eye, foreign body sensation, hyperemia, dysgeusia

Drug interaction

    Olopatadine has low drug interaction potential as systemic levels of Olopatadine achieved a?er ocular dosing are negligible.

Use in special groups

    Use in Pregnancy There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Olopatadine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

    Use in Lactation It is not known whether Olopatadine passes into breast milk. However, caution should be exercised when Olopatadine is administered to a nursing mother.

    Use in Pediatric: Safety and effectiveness in children for Olopatadine 0.1% is below the age of 3 years and Olopatadine 0.2% & 0.7% is below 2 years have not been established.
    Use in Geriatric No overall differences in safety and effectiveness have been observed between elderly and younger patients.
