Description

The extract of the Ginkgo leaf contains flavonoid glycosides and terpenoids (ginkgolides, bilobalides) which inhibits binding of platelet activating factor (PAF) to platelets resulting in inhibited platelet aggregation and increased blood fluidity; reduces thrombosis, improvements in cognition, working memory, short-term visual memory in dementia, short-term memory in cerebral insufficiency, concentration and attention.

Presentation

    Ginkgo-B 60 Capsule: Each capsule contains Ginkgo biloba extract 60 mg.

Indications

    • Cerebral insufficiency - Memory deficit, poor concentration, depression, memory loss
    • Peripheral vascular disease
    • Vertigo & Tinnitus (Ringing in the ear)

    Other Uses • Protective action in hypoxia • Acute cochlear deafness • Sexual dysfunction associated with SSRI use

Dosage & Administration

    Ginkgo-B 60: 1-2 capsules 2-3 times daily or as directed by the physician.
    Duration of administration: Cerebral insufficiency-at least 8 weeks, Peripheral vascular disease- at least 8 weeks, Vertigo & Tinnitusat least 6-8 weeks.

Contrainidications

    Ginkgo biloba should not be used in any patient known to be allergic to it or any of its constituents.

Warning & Precautions

    Consider discontinuing Ginkgo biloba prior to elective surgery as it may increase the risk of postoperative bleeding.

Side effects

    Stomach or intestinal upset, headache or allergic skin reaction in rare cases.

Drug interaction

    Anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, heparin and thrombolytic agents may increase the risk of bleeding complications.

Use in special groups

    USE IN PREGNANCY & LACTATION: No known restriction.
    USE IN CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS: In children under 12 years 120 mg dosage should not be used.
